Idaho Winery Study

Taking inspiration from unique geological formations on site, this winery study provides an expanded tasting room and production facilities for an existing winery. The new building takes advantage of sweeping views of the nearby Snake River valley in a breathtaking setting overlooking the working vineyards.

From the moment visitors arrive on site, a choreographed entry sequence draws people through a break in a rock wall made of local stone into an entry courtyard. The two rock walls emerge out of the site and provide an anchor for the buildings beyond.

The design carefully balances the public tasting room and event spaces with the working production facilities of the winery. By splitting the two main volumes, we create a welcoming, protected courtyard. This separation also simplifies construction, allowing for a custom-designed tasting room and a more functional production area built with pre-manufactured metal components. Additionally, covered decks offer perfect spots to enjoy the scenic vistas of the Owyhee Mountains to the south.
